The charge cable connector that plugs into an electric vehicle can vary based on the charging level it supports. Here's a look at each one.
For home or public Level 1 charging, the SAE J1772 plug is the standard connector for electric vehicles. This connector is also commonly referred to as a J plug.
For home or public Level 2 charging, the same SAE J1772 plug is used. However, the charging station hardware will be more robust to handle the increased power.
Level 3 DC Fast chargers are not typically found in residential areas and use different plug designs not compatible with every vehicle.
